Well, sort of. I found out that my book Private Academies of Chinese Learning in Meiji Japan has apparently been pirated by a Russian hacker.
Not sure whether to feel flattered that someone found it worthwhile to steal what is after all a fairly specialized academic study, or angry, because people who pirate books seem to be completely unaware of the effort and cost that goes into producing them. And this book isn’t even that expensive, only £15.99 for the paperback!
At least I don’t have to be angry about being deprived of royalties, because I don’t get paid any before the second edition, prospects for which always seemed fairly remote anyway.
If you are reading this as a potential book pirate, please leave my next book alone! It will cost a lot to produce and I’d like to at least break even before it becomes a free-for-all.
